Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) has considered all the current information available to them from Government agencies including today’s ban on mass gatherings. Due to this ESSA has decided to POSTPONE the 2020 Research to Practice conference until early 2021.
The decision was not made lightly, but the health and safety of our members, staff and volunteers is paramount. It is important for ESSA to act as a good corporate citizen and play our role in helping to decrease possible community transmission.
Over 850 exercise and sports science professions had already registered for the conference from Australia and internationally. With many workplaces concerned about the impact of COVID-19 on their businesses, we have seen a number implement domestic travel bans and we were expecting this number to grow during the next two weeks.
Next week, ESSA will send further correspondence to all persons involved regarding their registration and other payments made to Research to Practice 2020. There will be options of transfers to the 2021 conference or refunds. We appreciate the importance of this matter and it is one of our top priorities.
The specific dates of Research to Practice 2021 will be provided shortly.
I would like to thank the Conference Committee and the ESSA National Staff for all the work they have undertaken to date for the conference.
Further information will be provided as soon as possible, we appreciate your patience in this matter.
Chief Executive Officer, Exercise & Sports Science Australia
